Tempest II
Lemi Ponifasio / MAU
Supported by Creative New Zealand
Artistic Director of MAU Lemi Ponifasio returns to Southbank Centre (Requiem, 2007) with his new work Tempest II. Ponifasio challenges ideas of justice, ownership and redemption in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, through personal stories of oppression and resistance.
Ponifasio’s Tempest II uses the mesmeric intensity of traditional Pacific ritual forms to create a highly minimalist contemporary performance of a staged meeting between the audience and leading Maori activist, Tame Iti.
*Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances the performance on Fri 27 June has been cancelled.
