Pacific Solution

From Afghanistan to Aotearoa

A documentary film produced by Annie Goldson / Directed by James Frankham

On the day the World Trade Center crumbled, 438 Afghan refugees were in a small boat off the coast of Australia, fleeing the persecution of the Taliban regime. They were rescued by the MV Tampa and became the centre of a media storm.

Pacific Solution is a documentary that follows a number of Afghan boys who boarded the MV Tampa, and the circumstances of their arrival in New Zealand, as well as the reunion when their family members join them. Through the prism of their journey, this intimate documentary examines the looming refugee crisis facing our world.
