Manufactured Landscapes

Dir Jennifer Baichwal, Canada 2006

A BFI release / Part of China Now

Jennifer Baichwal’s award-winning documentary centres on renowned artist Edward Burtynsky, whose large-scale photographs of China and Bangladesh portray the devastating impact of industrial expansion on the environment.

Burtynsky describes his photographs as 'metaphors to the dilemma of our modern existence. We are drawn by desire – a chance at good living, yet we are consciously or unconsciously aware that the world is suffering for our success.'

'Beautiful, insightful and thought-provoking' – Al Gore
