Ahead of its London premiere presented by LIFT at the ICA, the acclaimed Egyptian artist and Director, Ahmed Al Attar performed his stunning new work last week at Liverpool's wonderful Bluecoat.  Described as "Raw and utterly compelling" On The Importance Of Being An Arab was part of Liverpool's Arabic Arts Festival and audiences were struck by its timely relevance and unique insight to events headlining the news right now in Cairo.

The LIFT performances are at the ICA this Wednesday and Thursday ( 14th and 15th July) as part of Shubbak: A London-wide festival of Arab Culture.

Unpredictable and changing with each performance, and drawn from his personal archive of love letters, official documents and his Revolution Diaries detailing recent events in Tahrir Square, the show offers a profound refusal to define and reveal identity as Al Attar exposes the political and social influences on the artistic process.

Ahmed Al Attar is a leading figure in independent theatre in Cairo and director of the SEE Foundation.

Please note: The performance on Thursday 14th will be followed by a short Q&A with Ahmed El Attar alongside LIFT artistic director Mark Ball.
