It is theatre’s potential as a prism for viewing history, as well as a means of understanding time beyond conventional measurements, that is the focus of Rustom Bharucha’s lecture Between Past And Future: Reimagining Our Times In Theatre Today.

A longstanding commentator on multiculturalism and critic of globalisation’s excesses since the 1970s, Bharucha takes Hannah Arendt’s book Between Past And Future as the starting point for an investigation into how theatre relates to individual and national identities. He will also examine how theatre festivals can react and adapt to consumerism and the increasing commodification of art.
