Speak
Speak navigates the rocky road from childhood to adulthood and the tough choices faced on the way. Penned by the members of the Theatre Royal Stratford East Young Actor's Company under the guidance of poet Roger Robinson, Speak is a real slice of life in young urban Britain from those who live it everyday.
It tells the story of Jamie Lee, a former neighbourhood tough girl torn between the calling of the life of crime that has sucked in her mates or a more worthwhile path. With characters such as the gospel-loving grandma, wannabe pimp or council clerk as fully-fleshed as people you pass in the street everyday, Speak also proves that Britain's youth are much more articulate and intelligent than the two-dimensional 'hoody' stereotypes in tabloid scare stories.
